What are the best foods to boost metabolism?

Metabolism is the process by which your body converts food to energy in order to keep you alive. Unfortuately, there are no magic foods that boost your metabolism. Although there have been some studies that have shown that green tea and hot chiilies temporarily increase metabolism, the increase is too small to really make a significant difference.

Since muscle is more metabolically active than fat, increasing your lean muscle mass will help your body burn more calories. This doesn't mean eating more protein, it means adding some weight training to your workout routine. Also, eating helps to keep your metabolism going and when you severely cut your calories, your body may think it is entering a period of starvation and will adapt by using fewer calories to function.

The best way to boost your metabolism and/or keep it going is to eat consistent, well-balanced meals that are made up of real, whole foods. This means lean protein, moderate to high fiber, fruits and vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats.
