During pregnancy, alcohol passes through your baby's bloodstream in same concentrations that is passes through your blood stream. This can interfere with organ development, cause fetal alcohol syndrome, and can even play a role in miscarriage, premature birth or stillbirth.

Although research has concluded that heavy drinking during pregnancy is extremely harmful to the fetus, the effects of small amounts of alcohol are not as well documented. The amount that could be considered safe is a huge unknown. This is the main reason that most physicians recommend abstaining from drinking if you are trying to get or are pregnant.

Will a sip or two of wine during a celebration dinner hurt your baby, probably not. But ask yourself this question-is it really worth the risk of the unknown?
