Is Whey protein really effective or is it just a fad?

Protein is essential for metabolic function and some people do have additional protein needs. But, the majority of people can meet need their protein needs by eating real foods in moderate amounts. Whey protein has the highest biological value of any protein and is also one the greatest sources of leucine, making it a protein source that manufacturers want to use in powders, bars and other foods.

Whey protein can be isolated from milk or the whey by-product of cheese and depending on how it is processed, ends up as whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate or hydrolzed whey protein. Manufacturers like to use whey protein to boost the nutritional value of a product, add taste and texture and provide a ingredient list with less additives.

Do you to add whey protein powder or products with whey protein to your daily diet? Not really if you are eating a well-balanced diet. Can products that contain whey protein be helpful? If you are really busy or have additional protein needs, they are a good alternative.
