Whey protein has the highest biological value of any protein and is also one the greatest sources of leucine, making it a protein source that manufacturers want to use in powders, bars and other foods.

Whey protein can be isolated from milk or the whey by-product of cheese and depending on how it is processed, ends up as whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate or hydrolzed whey protein.
