I have a sweet tooth and am worried I might be consuming too much sugar. What is the allowed sugar consumption?

It is the added sugar in your diet that you need to be concerned about and that may lead to weight gain and hormone imbalances.

Try to limit your added sugar to between 25 and 50 grams depending your weight and activity level. Remeber this sugar that comes from things like baked goods, soda and processed foods. And don't assume that healthy foods don't have added sugar, such as fruit flavored Greek yogurt. Too many of these types of foods will likely push out more nutritious foods.

Although fruits are considered a simple carbohydrate, you body metabolizes more like a complex one. It is important to include fruit in your daily eating plan to ensure you are getting all your required nutrients and fiber. Try baking an apple with some cinnamon or making banana ice cream to help with your sweet tooth.
