Calcium is an essential mineral for bone growth and preservation. You don't have to consume dairy to meet your calcium needs, but milk and other dairy products are where calcium is found in greatest amounts.

If you do not consume dairy products, here are some calcium-rich foods that should be included in your daily eating plan: dark green leafy vegetables, fortified orange juice, soy milk and cereals, enriched grains, sardines, edamame, white beans, almonds, tofu, broccoli and figs.
